Studying English Literature and Psychology at Keele will provide complementary insights into why people think, act and behave the way they do. Studying English Literature allows you to investigate a diverse range of literary perspectives across different cultures and historical periods. On the other hand, psychological perspectives underpin all that we are and everything we do, from biological influences and social pressures to environmental factors. Studying both subjects, you will develop skills in communication, research and critical thinking, pertinent to a career in both science and the arts.<br>English Literature and Psychology at Keele enables you to build key analytical skills in research and analysis, with the ability to present your ideas and findings through various methods, as well as studying works of literature that will help you to develop your critical thinking and your understanding of the society in which we live.<br><br>You will explore literature from Shakespeare to the contemporary and examine literature in English from across the world, including Britain, North America and Africa, taking a truly global perspective. You will develop your knowledge and skills to contribute to some of the most crucial debates of our time regarding such issues as decolonisation, sustainability and the environment, gender and sexuality, and political extremism.<br><br>Taught by expert lecturers in English Literature, you will explore and interpret literary works that will challenge your views, advance your tastes, prompt your creativity, and give you the opportunity to become a versatile graduate. Through a range of activities and assessments, this diverse course will equip you with a vast array of attributes that employers are looking for, including creativity, emotional intelligence, and digital literacy.<br><br>Psychology will equip you with a well-rounded education and in addition to studying the principal areas specified by the British Psychological Society (BPS) curriculum, you will have the opportunity to tailor your degree to reflect your career aspirations and interests.<br><br>Principle areas of psychology include: biological, cognitive, social and developmental psychology as well as individual differences and historical issues. You will gain fundamental scientific skills in research design, statistics, qualitative and survey methods. With this knowledge, you will learn how to conduct research and critically analyse that of others.<br><br>The skills you will develop on this degree will not only equip you with subject-specific knowledge but will provide you with a variety of transferable scientific and humanities based skills that can be used in a wide range of sectors.
