The new Automotive Service Technology diploma is a unique opportunity to get the technical and career essential skills you need to succeed in the automotive industry. It can also serve as a pathway to apprenticeship.

This two-year program provides exposure to new trends and technologies. Once you complete the program, you will have the knowledge, skills and hands-on experience in dynamic shop environments to diagnose vehicle systems, and repair and maintain vehicles.

Learning outcomes for this program include being able to:

  • Identify safety hazards and comply with legislation
  • Diagnose vehicle systems
  • Repair and maintain vehicles
  • Select and use tools and equipment for diagnosis and repair of vehicles
  • Describe and discuss automotive systems and component operation
  • Demonstrate written and verbal communication skills

After completing the program, you will be eligible to enter into an apprenticeship and complete apprenticeship hours to receive a journeyperson’s certificate.

Career Opportunities

Prepare to enter a diverse field of employment once you complete this diploma, with positions at dealerships, national auto chains, independent shops and more. As a graduate, you will be prepared for rewarding careers such as automotive service technician, service advisor, shop foreman or service manager.

Specialization within the automotive service industry may also lead to entrepreneurial or self-employment opportunities as an autobody shop owner.

Students must have successfully Completion of the NAIT’s Business Foundations at 55%. English language requirement: IELST (Academic Format) with the minimum band scores for each component - 6.5 in the Speaking component, 6.0 in the Reading component, 6.0 in the Listening component, 6.0 in the Writing component, TOEFL IBT (Internet Based) - 23 in the Speaking component, 20 in the Reading component, 20 in the Listening component, 20 in the Writing component.


For international students, applicants must have

  • Grade 11 English or Grade 11 Literature
  • Grade 11 Math
  • Grade 10 Science

    with minimum overall band score of 6.5 with no band less than 5.0
